Synthesis and Bio-Activitystudies Schiff Bases Derived from 1-(2-Salicylaldiminoethyl) Piperazines
Abstract
The Schiff base derivatives of 1-(2-salicylaldiminoethyl)piperazines were synthesized, characterized and
evaluated for their biological activity on human acetylcholinesterase (hAChE), antioxidant and molecular dockingproperties.
The study demonstrated that the compound 4-methoxy-2-((2-(piperazin-1-yl)ethylimino)methyl)phenol (LHM) has the
highest activity in all the assays. The hAChE inhibitory activities of LHM is comparable with the standard
used. However,LHM could not be considered as abivalent ligand due to its inability to occupy theesteractic site(ES)region.
This activity can be attributed to its capability in blocking the active gorge thereby preventing the substrate and acetylcholine
from entering the active site. The antioxidant studies revealed variable results for the DPPH and FRAP assays which
indicates disparity in the mechanism at which the compounds responds in the two assays.
